Industry Leading CW Laser Combiners: Critical for the Life Sciences
Multi-wavelength combiners are used for many applications. Here are some laser source requirements for a number of life science applications:
Super Resolution Imaging:
- Wavelengths: 405 – 640nm – Red DPSS Low-Noise
- Output power: 300mW – 2W
- Beam Requirements: TEM00 or high power multimode, depending on the setup
Confocal Microscopy:
- Wavelengths: Most popular are 405nm, 488nm, 532nm/561nm, and 638nm. Others are often used as well
- Output power: 50 – 500mW
- Beam Requirements: Usually 1x PM fiber coupled. Wavelength combiners are ideal to cover all wavelengths.
Flow Cytometry:
- Wavelengths: 355nm, 405nm, 473nm, 488nm, 532nm, 553nm, 561nm, 594nm, 640nm and NIR
- Output power: 25 – 500mW
- Beam Requirements: Low-noise, excellent pointing and power stability, usually free-space beam
DNA Sequencing:
- Wavelengths: 488nm, 514nm, 532nm, and 640nm or 660nm
- Output power: 10’s mW – 2W
- Beam Requirements: Reliability, wavelength combiner useful to cover all the wavelengths needed
Optogenetics:
- Wavelengths: 405 – 640 nm range, most popular are 473 – 594nm
- Output power: Typically, low power is needed.
- Beam Requirements: Wavelength combiner useful to cover all the wavelengths needed.
- Multimode Fiber-Coupled Output.
Light Sheet Microscopy:
- Wavelengths: 405nm, 488nm, 532/561nm, 638/642/647nm, 785nm, 1064nm
- Output power: 50 – 500mW
- Beam Requirements: TEM00, Typically SM/PM Fiber-Coupled
- MDL-MDUAL or MDL-FSTM
TIRF Microscopy:
- Wavelengths: 405nm, 488nm, 532/561nm, 638/642/647nm
- Output power: Typically ≈ 100mW
- Beam Requirements: TEM00, Typically SM/PM Fiber-Coupled
- 2nd output port for single-wavelength for FRAP
Raman Spectroscopy (SLM Combiner):
- Wavelengths: 532nm, 785nm
- Output power: 50mW – 150/200mW
- Beam Requirements: SLM, MM Fiber-Coupled sometimes
